Can you tell me what to expect during a portrait session? Any tips to help make the session successful?
Newborn:
The ideal time to photograph a newborn is 1-2 weeks old. Babies are more sleepy and easily posed during this period. Newborn sessions typically last about 2-3 hours and are done in the late morning on Tuesdays or Thursdays. We have everything needed for your session from props to outfits. It is ideal if you can give your baby a sponge bath approximately two hours before your session, and keep baby awake after that until your session. You want to feed your baby shortly before your session as well. This way, baby will be happy with a full belly and nice and sleepy. Even if your baby is older than 2 weeks, it is never too late to get portraits of your little one! There may be limits on certain poses, as baby becomes more awake and less flexible, but we will try our best to still get those sweet poses.
Maternity:
We recommend your maternity session to be around 30 weeks. Give us a call before the end of your second trimester to book! We have some gorgeous maternity gowns available for you to use. A maternity session typically takes about an hour and can be in our studio or outdoors. Hair and makeup is available in our studio, before the session for an additional fee. Partners and children are always more than welcome to participate in the session.
Family:
A family session typically takes 45 minutes to an hour. The session can take place in our studio, at an outdoor location, or even your home. Some of our favorite locations are the Boston Common, in Boston MA, Mack’s Apple’s, in Londonderry NH, and Benson Park, in Hudson NH. We are happy to discuss clothing choices with you to help stylize your session to perfection! We encourage simple, classic clothing, to ensure that your photos stay timeless. Earth tones are an excellent choice, and it’s best to avoid clothing with words or brandnames on them, as they tend to detract from the child. Dressing everyone in clothes that compliment each other looks more natural, rather than dressing everyone in the exact same color. For example, you might dress everyone in creams, pinks, and browns, or some other complimenting color scheme. Parents, siblings and grandparents are always welcome!
When will my images be ready to view?
Approximately one week after your session. We do offer rush services when requested.
How long after my ordering appointment will my products take to come in?
Approximately 3-4 weeks.
Why do you recommend products such as canvases and albums rather than just digital files?
Before I was a photographer, I would regularly have family photos taken and just didn’t know what to do with them. They sat on my computer. Eventually I would usually print some 4x6s and stick them in a collage frame and that was the exteny of it. I then went to a friend’s home and saw gorgeous canvases and beautiful albums displayed and a nice collage of stunning framed images. I dreamed of having my photos displayed like that so I could enjoy them. Now that I am a photographer myself, I want to give others a platinum custom experience with everything they dreamed of. I love helping my clients choose what products best work for them and take the guess work out of it.
